Happy Times

With the vast majority of people packing the Los Cabos restaurants and beaches being tourists, pretty much everyone is in a good mood and ready to relax and celebrate at the drop of a hat. Locals too, however, venture out to try the food in our area, equally excited to see and be seen. For everyone, area bars and restaurants have become more than just places to hang out and fill the stomach. Thanks to the concept of happy hours, they now act as bridges, connecting daytime and nighttime activities, providing customers with the chance to save a few bucks on drinks, while having a great deal of fun at the same time.

Whether you’re wanting to relax after an intense day of fishing, or just looking to get a cheap buzz before heading to a swanky lounge later in the night, happy hours offer something for everyone. Find these places around Los Cabos and take advantage of their deals and discounts on alcohol, with some happy hours lasting much longer than you might expect.

Mango Deck is a restaurant known for its daring shows and outrageous contests which, more often than not, rely on drunken volunteers willing to do just about anything for a prize. Some would describe the atmosphere as year-round Spring Break, due to the crazy, often younger crowd that it draws. One thing is certain though; this Médano Beach establishment has one of the longest happy hours around. From 7 am to 7 pm every day customers can buy all national mixed drinks and beer at a two-for-one price. Additionally, a bucket of five beers is only $10 US. making it easy to see why everyone there is so darn happy.

Just steps from Mango Deck, on Playa El Médano, is Billygan’s Island, another restaurant which is home to the almost all day discounts on drinks. Beginning at 6 am, going until 10 pm, all domestic beer and mixed drinks are two for one. Billygan’s Island has creative contests daily, and a DJ spinning tunes from open to close. With so many lounge chairs available, watching the competitors is almost as fun as being one of them.

In contrast to the action at Billygan’s, is one of Médano Beach’s newest and more sophisticated spots to eat, drink, and be merry: Baja Cantina Beach Grill. Oversized cloth umbrellas create the feeling of chic on the beach, while the prices make even the most conservative spender feel right at home. National drinks like piña coladas, margaritas, and Mexican beer are all two for one, every day from 11 am to 7 pm Enjoy live music, such as jazz or flamenco, on Friday and Saturday afternoons from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, and nightly from 7 pm to 10 pm.

Offering the same reasonable prices, but with a different view, is Baja Cantina’s original location in Cabo, Baja Cantina Dockside. Located on the marina behind the Tesoro Los Cabos Resort, babes in bikinis are few and far between. Instead, people gather here to watch the yachts come and go, while swapping fish tales under the palapa ceiling. At Baja Cantina Dockside the happy hour means two-for-one Estrella beer ($3.50 US) on Saturdays from 9 pm to 12 am. Drinks with rum, vodka, and tequila are just $3 US and beer is $2 US. Friday and Saturday nights a DJ keeps the party going from 9 pm to 1 am.

On the far side of the Cabo marina, situated in the newly opened Gali Plaza, is Pub de la Chapu. This bar and restaurant attracts people looking for new experiences and variety. It is a little bit of Ireland right here in Los Cabos, serving international food like fine meats and crepes, in addition to 80 types of beer from all over the world. Open Sunday through Wednesday from 10 am to 2 am, and Thursday through Saturday until 4 am, happy hour is from 3 pm to 6 pm daily, and includes vodka, whisky, national beer, and more.

Located at the entrance to San José del Cabo, inside the Cabo Surf Hotel, is the restaurant 7 Seas. This casual restaurant offers a spectacular view of the ocean and the hordes of surfers negotiating its waves. In fact, it has become a popular spot for these athletes to strategize and refuel after a day of battling the sea. At 7 Seas tequila lovers can partake in the happy hour with two-for-one tequila tastings, either blanco or reposado, straight or as part of a mango or traditional margarita. Margaritas or Cabo Surf Tequila go for just $7 US from 5 pm to 6 pm daily.

Consider creating your own Los Cabos happy hour tour by visiting a few or all of the places listed here. Share some laughs and a few discounted drinks with your money savvy friends, and accompany them for live music, contests and great food. You can’t afford not to try it!
