Lolling on the beach under the star-lit sky, we could hear a sax playing soft jazz, in rhythm with the gentle sea lapping the shore. My lady glanced over, gazed into my eyes and purred, “I love you, Gringo.” Such is the magic of Cabo.
Cabo is a place for romantics and perhaps, for those hoping to find romance. On Médano Beach one can stroll barefoot seemingly forever, along the water’s edge, past hotels, clubs, restaurants, and sailboats asleep at anchor. Start with a moonlit dinner at Baja Cantina Beach Restaurant, where you can enjoy live music while wiggling your toes in the sand. Drift along the shoreline until the sun rises from the Sea of Cortés, perhaps wandering into the Mango Deck or Las Cascadas Beach Grill for breakfast and a Tequila Sunrise to celebrate the beginning of another day in paradise. Both places welcome lovers all-day, and long into the night. You can watch the moonrise over the Sea of Cortés and dream the night away on one of Nikki Beach’s private Caribbean beds surrounding the candlelit pool deck. Here in Cabo’s ME by Meliá Hotel, overlooking Médano Beach and the “sea of love”, dine, dance or do some laid-back lounging. There’s also livelier entertainment ranging from hip DJ’s and bands, to mixers and fashion shows, if you prefer to celebrate under the moon with a little more energy.

An entire Cabo night can be spent on the marina’s malecón (boardwalk) taking in the sights and sounds of the trendy bars, clubs and restaurants. Mingle, dine, dance or shop to your heart’s content. Along the malecón’s Golden Zone, you may hear Los Corsarios Steak House before you see it. In the evenings, a solo sax serenades diners on the terrace. Angus steaks, fresh local seafood and martinis are specialties. Enjoy a drink while watching the sun setting behind Cabo’s hills on the other side of the marina, or while viewing your favorite game on the big-screen. Amarone, an upscale New York style Italian restaurant near the new Luxury Avenue boutique shopping mall, is known for its rich northern Italian cuisine, classic Italian wines and aromatic cappuccino. Jazz groups play cool tunes Tuesdays through Saturdays from 7-10 pm. (No music Weds.)
Dine al fresco or inside with an upper story view of the marina by feasting at Capitan Fish restaurant on the Puerta Paraíso Mall’s terrace level. Fresh seafood is prepared traditionally or with unique Mexican recipes. The dining terrazzo overlooks cascading waterfalls, palms, the malecón and the marina just beyond. Romancing the chrome? Passionate bikers can find love on the mall’s marina level at the waterfront Harley-Davidson café, with enviable shiny motorcycles and gorgeous motor yachts just feet away. As if that’s not enough to entice you, the aroma of giant cheeseburgers will get your heart pumping, and the laid-back atmosphere will settle you down.

If you are in the mood for fondue with a view, head over to Alexander Restaurant on the malecón behind Plaza Bonita. The restaurant’s comfortable patio is reminiscent of an old Europe street café. You can sit back, watch passersby, and enjoy a dining experience that is prepared with Swiss perfection in everything from food presentation to classical entrées such as beef or seafood Chateaubriand. For a truly romantic (and sexy) dessert, try the chocolate fondue with seasonal fruits for dipping. About mid-way along the malecón on Marina Boulevard, you can almost touch the yachts from Lorenzillo’s Lobster House’s waterfront Oyster Bar, poised over the water of the marina. Oysters are the legendary love food, and here they are delectable.
No Worry’s Bar and Grill encourages you to “enjoy the lifestyle,” that they call No Worry’s All Day All Night. ® Look for the lighthouse tower behind Tesoro Los Cabos Hotel, and you’ll find this lively place with its raised terrace that is a perfect place to see and be seen. Live music on the weekends and a mostly casual menu perfectly fit the restaurant’s moniker. Surfboards and neon, dude.
Now since the Cabo moon does shine everywhere and on everyone, you may prefer a place off the beach and the lively waterfront. There are plenty of places beyond. For fine northern Italian cuisine, in Cassanova’s quiet patio setting you’ll be dazzled by the chef’s authentic family recipes. Thursday through Saturdays, the wonderful Wendy Tasoff plays keyboard and sings romantic favorites under Cabo’s Venetian moon. Your Irish eyes will shine at the view of city and harbor lights from Brennan’s Bar & Grill restaurant perched above the Blarney Castle Inn overlooking Cabo San Lucas Bay. Imagine the full moon’s reflection as you dine on the terraces. Find traditional Mexican, international cuisine and Irish dancers whenever the boat from Dublin arrives. Celebrate your special Cabo night with a Full Moon Dinner at Cabo Surf Hotel’s 7 Seas Restaurant in San José del Cabo. Watching the moonrise over the sea like a giant balloon is as awe-inspiring as the dining.
No matter where you choose to be…on the beach, a patio or a boardwalk, all nights are indeed magical under the Cabo moon.
